New MOD for Joomulus - more features... 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 2
Hey there...

I wrote a new MOD for Joomulus, based on the fantastic work of Joomlabear and with some help of Roy Tank, the maker of WP Cumulus...

This new MOD gives you the chance to configure Joomulus better for your personal needs. These are the new feature:

*NEW* Distribute tags evenly or randomly on the sphere

*NEW* module class suffix

*NEW* Scale the tag cloud to get a oval instead of a round tagcloud. Works and look great if you want to show the cloud in a kind of banner (see screenshot)

*NEW* set a highlightcolor (if tag is selected)

*ALSO NEW* you have 3 modes how to import your tags into the tagcloud

1. - generate automatic tags of your content (like the original Joomulus)

2. - *NEW* insert all Tags and Hyperlinks in one or more external XML-Files and adjust which one to use. Great for multiple TagClauds on different pages. You can find a very easy to edit XML-Template in module folder after installation

3. - *NEW* define up to 20 tags and hyperlinks directly in the module-configuration in the admin area... very easy without any external configuration

*NEW* in the XML and "self-define"-mode you can also edit the font-size of each tag

*NEW* select your prefered font type: use sans serif font (Verdana) or serif font (Times New Roman). It's just a click away

*NEW* if you use auto-generated tag and you need SEO friendly URLs, then you get it now! :) You can change between Joomla-default URL generation and SEO-friendly URL generation.

Hope you enjoy my mod!!!

Re: New MOD for Joomulus - port to swfobject 2.1 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 2
Hi, this is the FLOM mod, ported to support the new swfobject.js 2.1 library for loading flash content with javascript, now available at code.google.com/p/swfobject/

I had a problem on IE7 where it refused to show the page and issued error message "Operation aborted". Debugging showed that it was due to js errors and that traced to mod_joomulus was using the swfobject.js 1.4 version, now obsolete as documented on the site. At the same time, I was using the latest 2.1 version of swfobject.js for another component (avreloaded).

So I adapted the module code to use the latest library. I added the parameter to choose to load it or not from the module (if it loads it, it does only once), as if you load it more than once you might face problems, mainly with IE7. It is your choice to load it with this module or load it elsewhere. Rule of thumb, if a component / plugin loads it, set it to no here.

Warning, before installing this one, be sure your other modules using swfobject.js are compatible with this version. Some templates provide their own version and you might run into problems. Just do a find over your site for the "swfobject.js" file, open them and check if they are version 2.x. If they are 1.x, and everything's working okay, then this might not be the module for you. But sooner or later you would be forced to move to the new 2.x version and this is where this module might help you.

So here it goes, and please let me know if you run into any problems.

Enjoy, Willie.

Re: New MOD for Joomulus 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
excellent work.
love the new version 1.05.
tested it in localhost using TagImport Modus SD Option. Works excellently, using for example, the tag word, Jan, the url for it is:

localhost/joomla15/index.php?searchword=...mp; option=com_search

However, when I transferred do it in remote host using the same SD option and using the url for the same word of:

www.whatididonthisday.com/index.php?sear...mp; option=com_search

the Joomulus cloud is gone.
if I change the url for it to:

www.whatididonthisday.com/

the cloud is back.

But this is not the link that I want cos I want my tag words to return a Search results like the AR Option.

I am using Windows Vista, Firefox 3.03 and IE7.

To check out what I meant go to my site; presently using Joomulus v1.05 with SD option and only the word Jan is linked to the url,

www.whatididonthisday.com/

I cannot show what happened when I linked to the longer url as the Joomulus cloud will disappear.

Any ideas why there is this difference between localhost and remote host?

tehnz: For some reason when I click on the words they don't take me anywhere.

Regarding the issue for the cloud not appearing, try setting the module to show on all options for all menus. If it then does show, you have a module's placement issue.

hi tehnz...

could reproduce your error...

The cloud is still there but no tags by using a search URL like
index.php? searchword=bla&ordering=&searchphrase=all&option=c om_search

I'll try to fix that, but unfortunately i have no time for this today... maybe tomorrow...

hope thats ok...

hi Willieram, I only linked the word Jan for demonstration purpose. The rest of the words are not linked.

With regard to the cloud appearing or not appearing, the only changes for that to happen is when i change urls. No other factors were changes.

Re: New MOD for Joomulus 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 2
Hi thenz, first of all my apologize for not reading properly your post, you said explicitly that only the Jan word was linked :(

While browsing the site with IE7, I find a couple of errors and debugging it led me to an error on the calendar module (mod_blog_calendar), which used the mootools library.

For diagnosing this, you have to go to advanced tab of Internet Options in IE7 and de-select the option for disabling script degubbing (there are two of them). Then on each error you will be presented a window offering you to debug the error, and then you could get into the debugger and find out what is the offending module.

Normally in joomla this is about incompatible versions of mootools.js or swfobject.js, or loading them more than once. I checked in your case and I found that you are loading them only once, so perhaps it's about the version of mootools that the calendar extension required.

Perhaps there is a conflict there. Sorry I could not move on deeply into this but wanted to highlight what I found.

Having said this, I nevertheless see the cloud dispalyed beautifully everytime now on both Firefox and IE7 under Windows XP SP3, on home page, after clicking Jan and also on the search url you provided, so perhaps you already solved the joomulus error and I only catched another one.

Hope this helps.

Best regards, willieram.

Hello Willieram,

Thanks for these infos !

Actually I tried mod_blog_calendar as well, and get this error too...
Since I'm having same troubles using RockSlideShow + SmartSite, (flash based module, and might be motools for SmartSite...) I think you must be right about all this...

Can't go further neither unfortunatly...

hi Willieram,
thanks for spotting the problem. Much appreciated. Tried to track this problem down as suggested.

The problem: module_blog_calendar do not work properly in IE7 but works perfectly in Firefox.

But when I uninstall a plug-in (JGT translator), it works well in both browsers.

Any suggestion why this is so?

I use Joomla 1.5.8
pHP v5.2.6
MySQL v5.0.67
Windows Vista
Firefox 3.03
IE7

However, I still have not solved my original problem in Joomulus which was when a long url (giving search results) was linked to the word Jan, using the SD Option, the Cloud disappeared. When only simple url is linked to the word, then the Cloud appears. I now showed u the long url search links to every word within and using the Joomulus Swfobject2 version.
Same problem shown with Vista (using Flash9, IE7), Windows2000 (using IE6), XP (IE7 with either Flash9 or Flash10).

Crazy! So it worked for a few hours then stopped?
I just made an update, mainly fixing the strange merging of words. It may help you.... I hope.

Hi, sorry tied up with things... wish I had a million dollar!!

Anyway... regarding your problem with a module working okay with FF and not with IE7, this is normally on the way both handle javascript errors. Try looking at Firefox Javascript console (Normally opens with Ctrl-Shit-J) and look for any errors. In my case I had many and all of them end up being conflicts with mootools.js and swfobj.js. The way that I solved them was to ensure the template loads only one version of each, and manage to get the modules to be compatible on that version. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's hard. Look for any updates on the developer to see if you get to versions that use the same level of these libraries.

Regarding joomulus, I've found a couple of errors:

1) Ensure the parameter "Load swfobject library" is set to Yes, as I don't see it loaded in your template, that would raise you an error.

2) I've went much too further with Joomulus but still very alpha, but I found an error in your current version. Here's the patch:

In file mod_joomulus/helper.php, replace this text:

Code:

// build params array
$flashtag .= ' var params = {';

if( $options['trans'] == '1' ) {
$flashtag .= 'wmode: "transparent"';
}
$flashtag .= ', allowScriptAccess: "always"}; ';

with this one:
Code:

// build params array
$flashtag .= ' var params = {';
$flashtag .= ' allowScriptAccess: "always" ';
if( $options['trans'] == '1' ) {
$flashtag .= ', wmode: "transparent"';
}
$flashtag .= '}; ';

That would make it for both FF and IE7.

But you might still get errors from the other component/extensions, so disable them before trying this out.

And please backup up frequent, backup often... and before this patch!

Cheers, willie.

hi williamrm

I understand about Firefox and IE difference with SWFObject. Nothing can be done about that till Microsoft gets its act together.

1) has set YES to 'Load SWFObject Library'
2) have modified the patch code into helper.php as suggested,

But do not see any difference in AR or XML options when viewed in either browsers. However, in SD option, tagwords disappeared completely - no cloud nor list, in both browsers when using the url: www.whatididonthisday.com/index.php?sear...mp; option=com_search

The cloud reappears with simple url: joomlabear.com

i.e. same problem as before (but this time with no cloud nor list shown).

Out of interest, what does the patch do?

Hi tehnz, I see two possible sources for the error. First, try setting the parameter Transparency to yes.
Second, if that does not make it, then I see a problem on the way the urls are encoded with those options.
First try with transparency and let's see if that makes it. The other point requires some coding.
