Japanese 2byte characters 2 Years, 10 Months ago

Hello,
I'm using Joomulus on a Japanese website.
But it simply doesn't show Japanese characters. I don't know if this is because the module isn't compatible with 2 byte characters.
Would appreciate a reply.
Thanks!

The characters in Joomulus need to be embedded in the swf to give a smooth animation of the words floating. So to save on space we only embed the bare minimum characters. I'll export one that supports Japanese characters later today. And I'll post back here to let you know.

Hi Sushismb, could you log in and download the latest version of Joomulus and let us know how it supports Japanese characters. There's a parameter for language and you'll need to select Japanese/English. Kana and Kanji should be embedded now.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
I deleted the old and installed the new update.
1st I tried with English/Latin to check if the module works. It does except that it doesn't show the Japanese characeters.
Next, I changed it to Japanese/English and now it doesn't show anything.

Hey sushismb, whats the link to your site? I'm sorry it took so long to update this. Uploading a new Japanese encoded Joomulus today, in an hour or two.

Hi again, I've finally got some Japanese supported fonts to use. I've managed to Embed Kana characters which creates a 75kb flash file, Kanji (level 1) creates a 2.5MB flash file which is unrealistic. Originally I had all Japanese characters embedded which created a 5MB flash file.
I'll be uploading with in the hour. Again sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, it's been quite a complex issue enabling Japanese characters. I hope Kana characters will be enough.

Hello,
Our site is www.coco.ph. I don't have the module up there obviously because it's not working.
Please provide an update.
Thanks.

Hi sushismb :)
we're posting at the same time.
If you have time do you want to test out the Kana characters for me?
Attached is the soon to be uploaded Joomulus module. But I've a few more languages to support first.

Note: you'll need to rename the above file to mod_joomulus.zip the 20091203 was added by the forum uploader.

Hello,
I've followed your instruction and installed (over-write).
I got this error after installation went through.
Notice: Undefined variable: row in /usr/local/apache2/vhosts/coco.ph/htdocs/
libraries/joomla/installer/adapters/module.php on line 252
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /usr/local/apache2/vhosts/coco.ph/htdocs/
libraries/joomla/installer/adapters/module.php on line 252
I'm also used my old settings in which I have a mix of Japanese and English texts = nothing shows on the page at all. But if I change to English/Latin, only English characters will show.
It seems like it has no progress.

Did you completely uninstall the existing mod_joomulus before installing the new one? It doesn't look like an error with joomulus?

Hello,
OK I unistalled the module from the backend and re-installed it. It was successful without any errors.
Please take note that in Japanese, we use a combination of 3 different charactersets = HIRAGANA / KATAKANA / KANJI.
Aside from that, when typing on a computer or any similar device, we have an option to use 1 and 2 byte KATAKANA as well as to 1 and 2 byte Alphabet characters.
So meaning, without covering all the above, we can't say that the module is 100% compatible with the Japanese language.
My conclusion after this test...
Hiragana = YES
1 and 2 byte Katakana = YES
Kanji = NO
1 and 2 byte Alphabets = NO (this means any alphabets will not show when the language is set to JP)
