TOPIC: need blackbear width increased

need blackbear width increased 4 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi, how can I increase width to around 1000px? I have tried to change the 877 default in css, but it's now broken, as a look of two templates starting over side by side.

Thank you for help.

Hi,
The current version of black bear is fixed width and cannot be increased simply by altering the css. We have a new version coming that will allow this.

The reason for this is because the slices are 877 pixels wide - you could open these in a graphic application (fireworks, photoshop) and extend them.

I don't mean simply stretch them - they will look ugly if you do, make the canvas size 1000 pixels - cut of the end piece of the slice - move it to the end of your canvas and then cut a section of the repeating area and stretch that out to fill the gap.

If this seems to tricky we should have a new verison out in a week or so.

MAke sure you use 24 bit Alpha.

There are three types of PNG, 8 bit, 24 bit and 32 bit (32 includes alpha channel for transparency.)

The 8 bit only supports 256 colors - just like .gif format.

24 bit is millions of colors.

32 bit is millions of colors + alpha

My guess is that you are either exporting 8 bit and it doesnt have the color range to cope with the detail or perhaps 32 bit and you somehow have transparency in there?

2 bit should solve your problems - note: Photoshop calls 32 bit 24 bit but says "24 bit + transparency" or something like that - at least in my version of CS2 it does - CS3 may be different. 24 bit + transparency is pretty much the same as 32 bit anyways...

If all else fails email me via the contact form and I'll whip up a header that will work for you.

Cheers

In response to the first question - 3 column blackbear was made available here a while ago, it has increased width - sorry I did not reply to this post earlier - I somehow missed it :(

I tried all night to save as 24bit png ... basically I am following all instructions and still it comes out that way. I'm not sure why your png's work and not mine.

Thanks,
Abner

Hey guys,

I would like to say thank you. You guys have deffinately gone far and beyond what I expected. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. I was actually making the background the same color as the background on the website, instead of making it transparent.

Big Bear thank you!
mac Thank you to!

I'm getting the same graphics problem trying to do a logo using the head.png file and PsP Pro X2. I've never really worked with PNG or transparency stuff before so I'm totally lost on what I'm doing wrong. This screenshot is from IE7, Firefox renders it just fine. I've tried all kinds of transparency options in the PsP optimizer during "save as" for the png file. If anyone can tell me how to get this to save correctly so IE doesn't screw it up I'd really appreciate it :)

Well I took a second look at work today and noticed on a different monitor in Firefox I can still see the problem but barely so something is definitely not saving right but I don't know what options I need to be setting in PsP to get it to save right. Hoping someone has an idea :)<br><br>Post edited by: flyinion, at: 2008/04/21 18:21

I think your having the same problem I was. The problem I was having is that when I would create the new image I was including the background color instead of making it transparent. What you need to do is delete the background color so that it is transparent.

Ok thanks, do you know offhand where that might be in PsP? I did try looking for something like that but couldn't find it. I'll look for it for sure when I get home though. So I need to set the background transparent right?

I'm not sure what PsP means, but I hope it means photoshop, because thats all I know.

What I do in photoshop is crop anything that is part of the background and make it transparent. Then add shadows.
