BlackBear Pro installation failure? 3 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi BigBear,

I downloaded the Blackbear 1.0 yesterday and had a quick look this morning on my website (brisbane18s.asn.au), modules of course needed to be arranged correctly but I felt I needed a bit more width, so decided to download and try the Blackbear Pro.

When I went to install, it didn't recognise the zip file as an installer... (missing XML). Right, since BB1.0 installed okay, what's different...

I noticed Pro had "install" where 1.0 had "mosinstall". So I extracted the ZIP file, edited XML to say mosinstall, re-zipped and it appeared to work. But, it didn't appear on the template list.

I've now exhausted my limited knowledge in all things website (I run the site as a hobby thing for the sailing club), so what have I done wrong? :(

Wow! that's a really fast sailor on your home page...

Can you make me a temporary super admin account? email me info[at]joomlabear.com and i'll have a look under the hood if you approve.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the template? But maybe there is. We did test by installing on the BB demo site. But possibly there is something conflicting with your server setup?

Hi Mark, I've email you this but thought I'd post here as permission errors are common and someone else might find useful.

It appears the BlackBearPro folder is still on your server and can't be completely deleted - It will be a file ownership issue and you will most likely need to contact your host to get them to delete it.

Sometimes servers are configured so that when php (joomla) creates some files and folders (like when a template.zip is extracted on the server) they are created and owned by the server rather than you. In this case you can't manipulate them.

What I have done is upload BlackBearPro but renamed it "Brisbane Edition"

:)

If these server issues - file ownership issues affect you on an ongoing basis you can get around them sometimes by e.g. unpacking a template zip into your local FTP directory and uploading - then the files will be owned by you.

Cheers

I noted that an image was jutting out due to the 2 columns on homepage not being wide enough - if you go into menu>main menu>home and look at parameters you can set home page display to one column - a quick fix

Thanks for the quick help BigBear!

I saw the image problem as well and I just reduced the width of the image in one item to compensate, as I want to have the two columns retained... but thanks for the heads up!

Just need to go through the setup bits now, and just have to think around the main menu since the old template had expanding items...

You could have a look at extensions.joomla - some new expanding menus went up in the past week that look cool.

I might have a look at cofding in submenu/child menu support on the main menu for that template over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for pointing it out.
