Sub menu's in Transparant Bliss 3 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Hi,

I've implemented your Transparant Bliss on our sports club website. It really looks very good, many thanks for that great template. I've found a few improvements on some items (like menu on the right side) which I implemented. I've also made 2 improvements myself:

- changed the middle colum to 700. We have a lot of video's and a connection into a streaming cam on the website, which are 640*480. So I've increased the section to 700 and it works good now
- changed the CSS to have no borders around images with links.

I've two questions:

1) I'm using on the left menu sub menu, to keep the menu compressed. E.g. when you select multimedia, the sub menu is opened to access photo's, video's etc. The submenu though has the same character size as well is not indented. How can I get some distinguishes between the different levels in the menu?

2) The "readmore" button is quite big. Is it possible to make it smaller? I'm using 10px characters on the articles, it looks like the read more is 12px. I can't find it in the CSS.

Many thanks!

Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the very nice feedback - always makes my day. Site looks great!

first thing I noticed is that you have used the old version of transparent bliss - If you have modifed the code you probably don't want to upgrade but there were quite a few bug fixes.

Read more is easy - look in template.css for the classes that contain:

.readon

I'll have to have a look at the submenu issues again and get back to you.

Cheers

BigBear

PS: Can you tell me where you downloaded the template? was it through our site or another? I don't mind other sites distributing our work but if they are distributing the buggy version it makes more work for everyone long term.

Hi BigBear,

Wow - quick reply :). That readon was indeed easy, I wonder why i didn't found it myself - sorry for that. I've updated it and it looks way better.

I got the template from your site I believe, from joomlabear.com/Details/Transparent-Bliss-2.html - on the bottom side, that is the link for the 1.5. I couldn't find a link to version 2 so I assumed it was maybe not available yet. I did indeed make some changes, but I've documented them so I can replicate it when needed. Where can I find which bugs are fixed?

many thanks again!

Rob

Hi Rob,
Are you sure you downloaded from that link?
I have just downloaded from that my link myself and done a test install - I'm getting the new version of the template.
The quick way for me to tell is we changed our footer link in the new version to the bear paw:
transparentbliss15.joomlabear.com/background- changer

You have the bear icon.

There was a complete recode of index.php - it used to give a dozen or more html validation errors - the new version validates.
The css was updated - there was a silly bug where i had a margin that was unnecessary but caused the 3rd column to go below the others on ie6.

tip to find css issues like your .readon - install firefox web developers toolbar (google it) - while viewing the page you are troubleshooting hold CTRL-SHIFT-Y and then click on the element - e.g. the read more button - the css that applies to the element will be shown.

Thanks for tip, I will indeed install firefox toolbar - sounds really helpfull.

I'm not really sure whether I downloaded from your site or somewhere else. I did test a lot of templates and had a hard time to find one which was really nice - till I found the Transparant Bliss. I had version 1.5 so looked on your site for a newer version, but maybe a bit confusing is that it states that its 1.5:

Filename: transparent_bliss_1.5.zip
Filesize: 542 kB
Filetype: Zip archive data, at least v1.0 to extract
License: Creative Commons
Downloaded: 1053
Added: 19.2.2009

I did do a test install and indeed it is better. I will migrate my site as well. Thanks!

yes i c ur point

The 1.5 was only ever meant to infer that it was the version for joomla 1.5, as opposed to the version for joomla 1.0

Hi BigBear,

I've installed version 2.0. It was slightly harder to change the middle section from 600 to 700 but I've managed it.

And really nice, the sub-level menu opens up with a small ident and slightly smaller characters, and therefore its much clearer.

I think I've done most of it. I'm unsure what the table.contentpane or the topmodule/bottommodule. I've increased these with 100px as well but don't know whether that is needed.

Thanks again for your great support, much appreciated!

Ok, I've found out that the top module is for top&tumbs while the botom is user3. Sounds logical :-). So far so good, those needed as well the be increased. I've tested the site on different browsers, all looks okay.

Thanks!

Its a nice site! I like the idea of fading out the borders of the background picture! I still have some hopes that you are able to automatically resize the background image based on the screensize. I've purchased the template, is there a way how I can subscribe to updates?

Hiya,
Adding a module is fairly straightforward - especially if you just want it to appear in one of the existing panels.
changing the width is advanced - the index.php, template.css and image files all need to be modified.

To add module - in your index.php look for:

<jdoc:include type="component" />

This is the call to Joomla to insert main content at this point.

Just add the following code before or after above line of code:
<jdoc:include type="modules" name="user2" style="xhtml" />

Note that user1 is already used in the template so I have used user2

You should also ad this module to your templatedetails.xml as it is best practice but it should work regardless.

Hello,
Would this compromise work for you - you can use the two column version of transparent bliss for your wider format pages:
joomlame.joomlabear.com/ transparent_bliss_2COL.zip
Which has a wider main column.

You can install both versions of transparent bliss and apply the wide format one just to the menu items required. Or use it exclusively fo ryour whole site.
