Can this software support a membership based website that would include teaching art through video lessons, have pages for reference photos, and have a gallery for members to place their art in?

Hi,
Sorry for late response but I believe I answered your question in an email? Yes Joomla can do all of teh things you mention but you will need extensions - have a look at extensions.joomla.org/
