Transparent .PNG's ??? 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Dear Bigbear and fellow joomlabears,

I have a question:

When creating transparent .png's, what settings work best?

I'm still learning. Please look here:

flowingthoughts.com/index.php?option=com...; id=14&Itemid=16

The first image looks proper, png in 24 bit I guess setting.

Below that is 8 bit, but it has a white outline that does not belong...

The last image is with a black square layer, but it is not transparent.

The top image is 182.26 KB

Too large. How can I lower the filesize without losing transparency?

I will keep reading and post back here!

Thanks!

-Shawn

Edit-

Seems fireworks maybe the way to go when using 8bit, but my filesize seems larger now ??

:)

Edit again,

I dropped the resolution down so the filesize is better. If anything I will just resize him bigger.

He's about 44k now.

Hi Shawn,

I use fireworks to create my PNG's mostly - occasionally I swith to photoshop when making gradients that cover a large area - photoshop seems to handle those better (in terms of quality).

With file size I find you can sometimes drop to 8bit depending on how many colors are involved in the image - as you know this limits the color range to 256 colors - I do find using the 'exact' option seems to give a better result than 'adaptive' in the optimization panel options for png.

Thank you that is perfect. Someone else replied on another forum (3D forum) about why it may have had the white outline. Anyhow I think I can fix it, plus I doubt I will use 800 x 600 png's anymore.
