Hi,

I want to superimpose an image in my content fairly accurately over the background.

I have discovered that the bg position has to be 50% 50% to keep it in position horizontally when I resize the browser window.

The problem now is that the page is shown at slightly different vertical position relative to the bg on Firefox and IE(8)

Your Transparent Bliss demo also shows this difference, though Trans Bear does not.

Can you suggest how I can fix this?

edit: I tried to attach pics, then 1 combined pic but it didnt stick.
Comparing the pictures, it seems to be the background picture displayed in a different position

Have you tried:

background-position:center center;

Thanks Big Bear, yes center center works better than 50% 50%!

The foreground still shifts around in some circumstances eg switching between full screen and a window. I think I'll have to insert my logo into the background picture and have a fully transparent image in the foreground to overlay it.
