TOPIC: I created a dev site to work on website offline

I created a dev site to work on website offline 2 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I created a dev site to work on website offline and somewhere whilst working on it it went live. on the real site. How did that happen? I was not able to create a sub-domain e.g. dev.mysite.com.au, but had to do it after, e.g mysite.com.au/dev. Please tell me how this happened? I can't have my clients going to my site while I am working on it and it is under construction. I really am stumped at how this happened. any ideas?

Your reply is anxiously anticipated.

Waiting to work on my site without public notice.

Thanks
Tracy

Ummm I'm stumped also. You'd have to pull your entire Joomla installation out the dev folder into your site root folder.
It could also be a htaccess clause? Is your Joomla dev site still in the dev folder?

That is a worry as to why a site would jump to being live.

Sorry I can't help more. Very difficult to debug a server.

This might seem outlandish, but I'll ask it anyway. Lots of times when I'm working on a dev site, I have to fiddle with my hosts file to get it to come up locally with something like "lh.mm.com". Is there any chance that you are really landing on your dev site when working on your dev computer, but if you accessed it from another computer it would still be your old site? I guess you could also ping your URL from the dev computer to make sure that it returns a public IP address.

Steve, good point.

Tracy I see the lovely site you created last year still up at drawable.com.au/ so am thinking Steve is correct.

Try Steve's suggestion to view it from another PC.
