Hey,
It's not the gay pride flag - the Favicon and the template were inspired by Apple, and the chromatic iPod Nano they released:

If gay pride uses the colours in the chromatic range to represent their movement that's fine with us too, but it's not what we had in mind when we created this design.
Oh! and it's a Favicon - not a Flavicon - it has nothing to do with flavours or flavors depending on where you are in the world - the term comes from 'favorite' - as in 'bookmarking a favorite website' - historically your web browser would show an icon alongside each favorite, and consequently the term favicon evolved.
To be honest FTP is your only option - you can't really build a website without it.
FTP, or file transfer protocol, is the standard method for connecting to a web server and manipulating files. It's the way things are done and it is about as easy as it gets.
All you need is a login and password for your web host - you enter this into your FTP program (client) along with the ftp address - in your case most likely ftp.drawable.com.au - and presto you are connected - you can add remove and edit files at will.
Some hosts do offer web based file managers but they are almost always clunky and unreliable over FTP - also the login for your web host is almost always the same login you use for FTP - so the same effort is required either way.
