Updating Help Needed 2 Years ago Karma: 0
Please forgive for posting this here (I know it's the wrong forum but I need some help and don't know where else to get it). I am running Joomla 1.5.9 and want to upgrade to the current version. But I am scared to death to do it without some confirmation that I am not going to totally ruin everything I have worked so hard to get up and running! Is this right - I backup, get the appropriate files that update from 1.5.9 to 1.5.17, FTP those file to my directory? Are the file names all the same and I just overwrite them? What about all the extensions I have added? Does anything have to be done to them or are they still there and will work? Thank you in advance for any answers!

Hi

Please read this manual: Link

Important is that you backup your site. See the video from BigBear Link

Also you must use this update file Link

Hope it helps.

Thank you! It does definitely help. But I have no idea how to set up a test site which is one of the first things the manual said to do. I did not set up our original site but have done massive updates to it. I read about the 'update manager' extension. Would that make this easier for me?

You can install a test site on your local system. Please see for example XAMPP

I do not know the update manager. But I think it is better you make it with the official way.

At first download and setup XAMPP, then folow the video from BigBear and use the .zip file to restore the your original site on your local system. Then you can taste the update progress and learn the way.
