Ok,Joomla is all shiny new to me so BEAR with me.....

I am not really used to CMS sites and most off what i know is standard css and html stuff, but a friend of mine asked if I would change a couple of links on her web site www.darlingbudsofkelso.co.uk and i thought easy not a problem, give me the ftp details and i tried to download the site (public file) and it just went into download free fall it seemed to be never ending!

I then started to notice words in the files like joomla and php and thought ok this is new to me!

Would i be right in saying i need to get the username and password for joomla software from the person who built her site? then do it from a dashboard or whatever you call it, then preview it in my WAMP local server?

any help much appreciated

i may also start looking into learning this CMS program!

Hi iconik,

welcome at JoomaBear.com :-)

Nice that you make the step from html to CMS. :-)

The easiest way is, when you have the backend login from the site with admin rights. Install "Akeeba Backup" Then you follow this manual from BigBear Link

When you have done it, you can restore the backup on your local machine.

When you have questions, please ask us. :-)

Thanks for that,

All i want to do at this moment is change a menu link from lnking to another page within the site to a flickr slideshow address.
Would i just login to the front end mangagement panel and go to menu and click on the one i want to change and then paste the flickr link to replace the old link?

how do download the whole site to back it up ?

I notice that you are very new at Joomla. Please do the changes carefully. ;-)

When you want to change the link, go in the backend from the site (www.yoursite.end/administrator) login and select Menus >> The Menu where the link is >> Select the Menu Item you want to change

There you can change the link. When you have problems you can ask. :-)
