TOPIC: Adding Joomla to an existing HTML/Flash site

Adding Joomla to an existing HTML/Flash site 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
I have an existing website (www.MetalPenBlanks.com)that I would love to convert to Joomla, but I don't want to lose my page ranking and back links.

Do you have any advise on how to do this?

Can Joomla and the existing site both operate from then same directory?

Can I keep my html/flash home page (index.htm) and point the links to joomla generated pages?

Sent this to Lachlan the other day via email. I would like you guys to help me set up another joomla site as well.

The easiest thing to do would be to re-create those pages in Joomla, then 301 redirect the old urls. This will pass on any page rank the old page accumulated.

They could both exist in the same directory. But probably easier from a manageability point of view to convert to one or the other.

Um... I was about to say yes you could keep your home page. BUT I think that'll be tricky. Joomla needs a home link to work I think. And that'll always point to the vertual home page in the database....

Lachlan has been out of the office for the last few days. I'll try and find the email you sent through and respond.

Can you guys give me a quote to build a Joomla template based on the look, feel and flash of my site www.MetalPenBlanks.com ? The new Joomla site will need a good gallery component and a shopping cart with PayPal and Google checkout capabilities. I can load all of the content once you install the system.

If not can you reccomend someone to do this work?

Hi MHKogan,

anything is possible, but it is a lot of work to build a Joomla template on this look.

I would try to modify for example the BlackBear Template.

The extensions are not the problem.

What have you at the moment for a site? When I see it right, it is not a CMS.

Hi MHKogan,
sorry Lachlan is busy, and simultaneously sick. I'll try and get him to reply.

Building a site with a custom gallery and shopping cart would get quite intensive... there is something I stumbled accross the other day which looks faily painless called FatFreeCart.com its a HTML shopping cart. So its a copy paste deal to get it into your page. And supports PayPal and Google check out.

I'm trying to think of who else to recommend to build this. I'll try and get back to ya within the next few hours.
