Cannot upload or edit content Help 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 2
I started off with a different template and uploaded several articles. Having seen Transparent Bliss I had to change it, it is brilliant. Trouble is since sorting all the little hiccups out with third column etc., which by the way are working perfectly now, I had not uploaded any articles, now when I try I get the little yellow triangle on all of my backend content pages and when I click on it I have the following information:
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object required
Code: 0
URL: mydomain.com/joomla15/administrator/index.php? option=com_content&task=add

any ideas?? could it be down to the template? I have looked everywhere to try and find the problem, unsuccessfully, what am I missing.

look forward to hearing from you

Just wanted to add, this is happening in both IE7 and Mozilla Firefox - does anybody know what I need to do to clear this up - help would be appreciated. The template is looking good in both I am pleased to say but adding the content and editing it, which is what I need to do now is not possible.

Have you tried temporarily assigning another template as the default? And then see if the backend behaves.

I must say I have never come accross a frontend template affecting the backend in anyway.

Have you modified anything else?

I have tried everything I can think of - I think it was wishful thinking that it might have been related to the template.

I just do not understand why all my administration pages to do with any content constantly has this triangle and the following information and does not allow me to add or edit articles - maybe if you have come across this sort of thing you could help. Am on Joomla forum too and cannot find an answer as yet!!!

Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object required
Code: 0
URL: mydomain.com/joomla15/administrator/ index.php? option=com_content&task=add

I have even re uploaded all the index php file and the com_content file to try and clear it all.

any ideas??

I would say it is definitly a server configuration issue - one thing I have just come accross with one of our client sites was an issue where the server had been configured to run php in DSO mode.
As I understand it (i'm not an expert) there are three standard modes PHP can run in:
suphp
dso
cgi

suphp is the one you want because the other modes do not allow your joomla installation the same access to files and directories on the server.

Its very similar to working on a windows workstation where you are the admin and you give someone else a guest account - you might not let them have access to everything - you may block them from your "my documents" folder.

In this way the dso and cgi modes mentioned above treat Joomla as if it is a guest on the server and can only do certain things - not write to certain directories, etc

I'm not saying any of this will help you a lot but you may want to look at another web host perhaps?

Hi Big Bear,

Thanks for your help. What I have actually done, as I ended up using the diagnostics extension and had over 16 pages of problems, I started from scratch. I uploaded the Joomla 1.5.4 and it is working beautifully on both IE and Mozilla apart from that one error on IE which is continuously there on my admin pages when working through IE - it is clear with Mozilla - with line 1 char 1 - still haven't worked that one out. In fact I don't know where to look to solve the problem.

Again thanks for your help and your wonderful template - have a look as see what you think - not complete yet but getting there. http://www.webmtmdesign.com/joomla154 Let me know please.

Just a small edit by big bear as the url was not workin<br><br>Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2008/07/24 22:00
