Hi peeps!
There is a little something that nobody has written so far, which I consider to be
very important: readability.
This is something you learn when you have written many pretty long documents and have had to read those of others. A font can look cool or just plain attractive, but quite often these fonts are very uncomfortable when someone has to read a fair bit of text. You don't have to read all that much text to notice this affect. Even a few paragraphs as in this thread can be enough to notice there is something wrong.
There is a tendency today to use sans serif fonts mainly because the ones with serifs are considered ugly (for what reason I don't know) or too old-fashioned. If you have to read a lot of text with a sans serif font, you will notice yourself "slipping out of the lines" or just needing more concentration to read than you would expect. Reading can become tiring instead of relaxing.
I'm not saying there is no room for artistic fonts or that looks don't matter. But please remember that somebody actually has to read the stuff you write - and let him or her do it with pleasure.
Regards
Chris
