PolarBear - A free template for Joomla 1.0 |
|
PolarBear Theme is our classic and popular template for Joomla 1.0.x - based on the same theme we use right here on the JoomlaBear website.
Click here for a live demo
Click here to download this theme (requires user registration at the top of this page)
Features
- 100% CSS Layout
- 100%
Free - though a donation is always appreciated and will speed
development of future themes. Has a collapsable module top [User2) that
can be used to display a slideshow, as seen in this example.
- Transmenu ready - we recommend SWmenu - works well with this template.
- Fairly light weight - the images that make up the layout are under 10KB (excluding logo)

Joomla CSS - list of styles used in Joomla |
|
This is a list of all the available css styles Joomla 1.0.x uses - Please feel free to email us if you discover anything we have missed.
Note: This is only a list of the styles that are predefined in Joomla - you can of course create your own custom styles when designing your layout. This list is useful for identifying the CSS for a specific item - example: if you wanted to create a custom style for the heading of a content item you can browse through this list and you'll probably notice .componentheading and .contentheading stand out as strong contenders for the style you'll want to customize.
We usually start with this list when creating a new template and fill in the blanks.
Another good tip is to check the source code of your site often while you build - once you have a beta template in place you can view the source and look at the class that Joomla is applying to the element that you want to style and then add this style to your CSS file. FireFox is a great browser for this - hotkey: CTRL U brings up the page source instantly.

Joomla - Header Image Module Setup |
|
This is a quick guide to setting up Header Image Module for Joomla. We have used Header Image Module at the top of the BlackBear Theme to display the panoramic landscape images.
The version of Header Image Module used on BlackBear has now been superseded, we used version mod_header_image_v206.tar.gz which can be found at the
very bottom of the list on the downloads page - it's classified as
obsolete now. We had problems with version
mod_header_image-Joomla10_v210.zip but I have had reports that the
latest works fine (version 211).
You'll want to grab the Header Image Module and then install it via your Joomla admin console.
Login into Joomla admin and go to Installers > Modules, browse for the Header Image file you just downloaded and click "upload"
Now you'll need to visit Modules > Site Modules
in your Joomla admin - find the Header Image module you just installed
and click on it - this will bring up the Header Image Module Parameters.
First
you'll need to choose "User 2" as the module position and also publish
it - by default it is not published. You'll also want to set the
dimensions for your images to 853 pixels wide - this is dictated by the
template and is the exact width available in the masthead area - you
can go smaller if you wish but your slide show won't reach the border
of the template - going larger will likely break things.
I suggest you then look at the documentation for Header Image here: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/header_image/
